Iapheia in 12 Items

Inspired by this.

  1. First and only issue of the Perspectivist journal Myselves, a cheaply printed folio of fulminating prose-poetry and impressions of abstract drawings. Eleven of the nineteen names on the list of contributors have been painted over with black ink, annotated variously as "heathen", "pervert", and "deceased".

  2. Lantern fashioned from a steel canister about the size of a coffee cup. The canister is stamped with several serial numbers and with the sigil of St Iaco, patron saint of poisons.

  3. Cardboard box of chocolates. "ND SONS CONF" is all that's left of the original label, the rest obscured by half a dozen yellowed customs certificates and one bloodstain.

  4. Portable briefcase radio set. It requires a mains connection and a lengthy setup process, and is prone to overheating if the local voltage is too high. Secured with a bulky combination lock.

  5. Woven talisman made from blessed thread and the hair of an Enochian Special Brigade soldier. Repels cats and some spirits. If you hold it up to your ear, you can hear it fizz.

  6. Large-scale map of a river valley and its surrounding settlements, with street maps of the larger towns on the reverse side. Besides the roads and basic geography, the only keyed symbols are post offices, churches, and areas of known bandit (hatched) or cult (cross-hatched) activity.

  7. Handwritten polemical pamphlet on the evils of currency exchange, proposing a unified barter economy as a solution. Attributed to "Citizen Smith", it is apparently the fifth installment in a series.

  8. Season ticket for the Hush Club, a silent cabaret show. Shows a list of upcoming dates, all long past, and a drawing of a reclining man wearing only an open dressing gown. All five boxes have been punched.

  9. Grosz & Kammenberg 1030 mdl IVa bolt-action rifle. "Rico" is carved into the grip in beautiful calligraphy. The hammer has been removed and the chamber welded shut. The butt is worn and chipped from repeated impacts.

  10. Tub of ointment. Smells like strawberry-flavoured sewage. Apply to affected areas once per day for gentle relief from eczema, burns (both thermal and chemical), and heavensfire scarring.

  11. Gia Sabrenza, Foundry at Dawn (oil on reclaimed wood, c. 1043). The titular foundry is a hard-edged block of colour looming over a loosely sketched village. The sale price - ninety hilsmarks, enough for a bottle and a half of vodka - is written on the back in pencil.

  12. Gravedigger's shovel with a hand-sharpened edge and three notches cut into the haft.
